Kettlebell vs. Dumbbell

I’ve been hearing conversations, reading online forum threads comparing Russian Kettlebells and Dumbbells.
Kettlebell vs. Dumbbell
Some say that dumbbells can the job of a kettlebell, while others swear that dumbbell is nothing but a distant mentally retarded cousin of the kettlebell.
Who is right?
Lets talk about dumbbells first.
- Can you swing a dumbbell? Yep.
- Can you clean and press a dumbbell? Sure
- Can you press, push press or jerk a dumbbell? Yep again
- Can most of kettlebell exercises be done by a kettlebell? Yes. It will not be as comfy , but you can do it.
BUT
Although it is physically possible to do kettlebell exercises with dumbbells, it is important to examine whether anyone is doing it.
Here is what I mean.
Go to a nearest gym. They got tons (literally) of dumbbells. Look around at dumbbell users. How are the dumbbells being used?
I can bet you $100 that you are NOT going to see swinging, snatching, jerking or clean and presses with dumbbells at your average town gym.
Now go to a kettlebell studio and, surprise, you see kettlebells used, well, as kettlebells.
If dumbbells can do everything that kettlebells can, how come people don’t use dumbbells?
