Inactive activity and Teletubbies

In this age of inactivity we are more active than ever. Bound to a chair we hunt the net for information, pour time into online social networks, reply to emails, watch movies online, read news online, and lets not forget about our 11 hour workdays… Active? Yes, but not really.
Physical inactivity is prevalent. As the majority is forced to sit all day long, it becomes a habit, and a vicious cycle.
- Drive to work (sitting)
- Sit at work
- Drive back work(more sitting)
- Sit on a couch/sofa and watch TV
- Browse more web (didn’t get enough of that at work)
- Go to bed, to wake up and do it all over again
As we are busy being busy we neglect our bodies. Most keep their cars in better shape(cars are expensive!) than our own bodies. Keep in mind that you can always get another car, but you only get one body.
To keep your body in good shape we must be active – physically.
Interesting thing that we all know that. It is common knowledge that exercise is good for you. Most folks are aware that obesity leads to health complications. So what’s the problem?
Why is obesity on the rise?
The root of all evil is our active lifestyle. Time, in other words.
There are only so many hours in a day, and somehow health(both physical and mental) and wellness get put aside until we have more time. More time, of course never comes.
Do you see a problem? We keep ignoring health until there is so much pain the we simply must do something about it. It is also not uncommon for folks to live on painkillers and be frequented by chronic pain.
The solution is to make time. I’m afraid there is no other way.
- Catch up on phone conversations while walking
- Delegate your work
- Focus your time on important and non-urgent
- Drop activities that waste your time(average American watches 7 hours and 40 minutes a day!)
If we look at time spent – watching TV takes the third place. Work and sleep are the other two.
Please turn off your Teletubbies and go for a walk or swing a kettlebell.
