Use it or lose it. Inactivity is the culprit behind chronic muscle pain.
Experience lower back pain on regular basis? Let me guess, you sit a lot..
Am I psychic? Yes, but not really.
Humans are designed to move, you know. Inactivity wrecks a havoc on human body, only to spit it out mangled and tagged with chronic pain.
And yet we sit all the time!
- We get up, wash up, drive(we sit in the car) to work(How long is your commute?)
- We get out of a car, go to our desk, sit in front of a computer(how long is your workday?)
- At the end of the day jump back into the car seat and sit some more on the way home
- Get home, eat, sit in front of television/computer/video game console(how much time do you spend in front of computer/tv?)
- Go to bed, wake up, do same thing over
Much sitting? I think so!
The best thing you can do is to start reducing the ’sitting time’.
Walk!
There is a reason why we are told to ‘walk it off’. As we walk(especially barefoot) our body will begin to realign. Regular walks do wonders to reduce and prevent your chronic lower back pain.
The key is not too push it and listen to your body. If you notice that your back starts to ‘talk’ to you while walking, stop and do a wallsit
Note the duration of the walk.
Gradually increase walking time.
How much time do you spend sitting?

Excellent info. I do a lot of walking because I have 2 dogs and then because I volunteer one afternoon a week to walk dogs at my SPCA.
I never thought about how walking would realign my body – it definitely realigns my mind!

Yes, you are right. Walking does do wonders. I am glad I came across this site, because I am going to let my friend know about it. She is having back problems. Thanks! penny

Yes walking is great to help realign your body – your pelvis is like a foundation to a house. If it becomes out of balance your entire structural system will become unbalanced.
People need to keep moving but they also need to look at the tight and weak muscles (weak meaning lowered nerve supply), lower back joints , and pelvic balance. Otherwise back pain will remain and walking will at best temporarily ease things.
Stretching is great but you need to know what to stretch, when to stretch and how to stretch effectively. Stretching is only part of the routine you should do to keep free of back pain.
Yes people sit a lot – and a lot get back pain – and a lot don’t. Those that sit a lot and don’t have back pain have a good functioning structural system.
There are so many things you can learn to do to help. Good article as it helps educate those to help prevent back pain.
