10 Ways to Let Yourself Go & What to Do About It

Everyone knows we should workout.

First thing that doctors recommend is exercise and diet. It is the ultimate prevention tool and a treatment where the only side effect is awesomeness.

Raise your hand if you workout regularly.

Most people don’t. Inactivity is crippling civilized countries with United States leading the pack.

The number one excuse? No time!.

“I’m so busy, don’t have time to workout”

I hear/read such statements at least once a day as I talk to folks about their state of health.

The good news is that “no time” can be overcome.

First ask yourself a question:

Why should I workout? Actually scratch workout. Lets use ‘be physically active” instead.

So, why be physically active?

To be healthier, look great, have more energy, preserve quality of life as we get older..

Why be healthier, look great, have more energy, have quality of life? Why do you want that?

To be able to enjoy life, do whatever we want, enjoy our independence, be able to keep up with our kids/grand kids.

But why?

I can keep on asking.. and eventually we will get to I want to be happy and to have the ability to enjoy this life.

Think about what you want and why you want it.

Think about next 5 years. Where do you want to be? Next 5 years can be drastically different from previous five.

Make time
There are only 24 hours in a day. Pick wisely what you spend your time on. Go through your day and toss any time wasters. Instead, leverage your time.

  • How much time do you spend watching TV? Average American watches over 20 hours of television a week! Cut back on TV a bit and go do something fun and useful.
  • Stop wasting time on irrelevant stuff. Does you desk really need to be cleaned every day?
  • Hire a cleaning lady or have dedicated time for housework.
  • Avoid commute. Leaving 10 minutes can give you hours.
  • Reclaim your weekends. Get away and play.
  • Leverage your time, delegate tasks to others.

How do you find time to stay physically active?

I schedule it in my day or I make the most of any opportunity. If I am outside playing with the kids, I’ll jump rope or do some walking lunges and squats while they are playing. Push ups can be done anywhere and now that I have learned how to use my kettlebell, there really is no excuse!

It’s true… everyone is so busy it is hard to make time to exercise. But I have found that if your desire is strong enough (get in shape, lose weight etc.), you will make time. I schedule exercise into my day and I MAKE myself do it. That’s the only way I’m going to get it done. The good news is that it’s paying off… Big Time. Over the last 3 weeks, I have lost a dress size! I now have more self-confidence and much more energy.
