High Gas Prices Will Solve America's Health Problems

There much whine about rising gas prices lately. My two kids don’t whine that much when it’s time to turn off tv and go to sleep.

I wish it would go higher and solve American health problems.

No, I’m not crazy.

Here is my thinking:

  • Expensive gas = expensive transportation = expensive food
  • Expensive food = smaller portions = losing weight = feeling better, being healthier
  • Expensive fuel also promotes less driving. Walk people, you got legs!
  • Less driving = more walking and biking = losing weight = feeling better, being healthier

Lets raise gas prices to $15/gallon.

What do you think?

That’s a really good idea. We drive instead of walking far too much. Hope it catches on.

Interesting points and there is truth in your statements. My concerns are that we would see more genetically modified foods. My other concerns are that the way the system is set up, especially in many parts of the US the transportation system is not equipped and I am not certain walking and biking will fit the bill. If we can support this with the addition of a strong public transportation system, work from home model, and producing foods in the most all natural way as well as buying locally then this indeed may have a large impact. Yes, gas will indeed change behaviors but it is simply a small solution to what I believe are bigger challenges.

Excellent topic of discussion and it gets people thinking
