Is bad posture permanent? Sometimes, but mostly no.

For the most part, bad posture is temporary and can be changed (How to Fix Bad Posture).

The more you wait, however, the tougher it will be to reverse the process.

What causes bad posture?

It can all be traced to

  • Injuries that lead to mechanically different body(knee or hip replacement, surgery that removes something from your body, fused disks)
  • Injuries that temporarily force different body mechanics (broken arm/leg for example)
  • Improper habits (too much inactivity)

Often bad posture is a combination of an injury and improper habits/lifestyle.

No, bad posture is not permanent. It will become permanent if you wait too long.
